"Set in the Caiçara culture of the Brazilian coast, Yore Gramps And The Whale uses a detailed and visually accessible animation style, local sounds, and only a minimum of words to tell a touching story of how to deal with loss and grief. After the protagonist, Mundinho, loses his grandfather, his grief manifests in the form of a whale that only he can see.
The film gives a lot of attention to his mourning and sadness, an overall topic important to children of different ages and backgrounds worldwide. At the same time, the story focuses on friendship and simply being there for one another, even if you cannot understand what the other person is experiencing. Centring child characters and their feelings, the film still manages to introduce the audience to the Caiçara culture and paints an authentic picture of life in a
